Hooray! Another hope for a breakthrough!
I've been feeling frustrated that I seem unable most nights to get to bed at an hour which allows me to get enough uninterrupted sleep. Part of the problem is that I enjoy my late night activities--reading, researching topics of interest to me, writing, watching cooking shows or inspirational/motivational webinars. However, I believe if I get to bed early enough to get enough sleep before my daughter transfers care of my grandson to me in the morning, I can do those same activities while he continues to sleep after she leaves for work.
I just can't seem to get myself to do it regularly. I've been feeling like a failure, and completely blocked on this issue.
Tonight I watched an online presentation by Jack Canfield and Pamela Bruner about using EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, or meridian tapping) to work on these kinds of blocks. The idea is that we have unconscious triggers that have developed over our lives which keep us from making progress in certain situations. These unconscious reactions are aimed at keeping us safe and happy by helping us avoid situations or experiences which made us feel threatened or unhappy in the past.
EFT is a technique for removing those blocks to allow us to move forward toward our goals. A series of statements and/or affirmations are made while tapping a sequence of acupressure points and focusing on negative emotions around a goal or action we want to achieve or do.
There is some research which shows evidence that EFT tapping results in lower levels of cortisol, a stress hormone. The results are sometimes quite dramatic in very short amounts of time.
I'm going to try working on my sleep deprivation issues using this technique. I'm hoping it will help me get past the unconscious blocks I've felt but been unable to consciously identify. This seems to be a perfect issue for applying the technique. We'll see how it goes!
